TRL ReportIn 2000, TRL Limited was commissioned by Safecote Ltd to investigate the properties of the Safecote de-icer product. Tests covering a wide range of Safecote properties such as freeze/Thaw characteristics were carried out in the laboratory. In 2002, TRL Limited was again commissioned by Safecote Ltd to investigate the performance of Safecote when used as an additive or pre-wetting agent to salt products. These tests were carried out on TRL's research track with commercial spreaders and different salt products. The primary aim of the studies was to determine how best to reduce the Chloride component of the treatment in order to mitigate the damaging effects of salt products.

Ulster University Skid ResistanceIn 2006, Safecote Ltd commissioned Ulster University to investigate what effect on skid resistance the Safecote additive would have when mixed with Sodium Chloride. Various road surfaces and weather conditions were looked at. The conclusion was that no detrimental effect to skid resistance occurred when the Safecote product was introduced.

Ulster University Freezing TestsIn 2006, Safecote Ltd commissioned Ulster University to carry out a second piece of research work. This involved understanding what freezing point depression benefits the addition of the Safecote liquid had when mixed with sodium/magnesium/calcium chloride brines. The results showed a very positive benefit when introducing Safecote in to the liquid mix.
